NATIONAL AWARD FOR STAGE CREW WINNERS: MATTHEW HUMBERSTONE SCHOOL, Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire.
David Beal, UK Rock Challenge® Stage Manager, writes:
"The standard of crews every year improves and so therefore do the National Stage Crew award winners. Matthew Humberstone not only performed brilliantly in both setting up and striking their scenery but truly grasped the definition of the new judging criteria with regards to performance skill. The stage crew's involvement was not only seamless but was truly integral to the production and as crucial as any other element in the piece. The scene changes were perfect in both the heats and finals and we as a crew had no hesitation in naming them the 'stage crew of the year'.
SPECIAL MENTIONS: HORNSEA SCHOOL, Hornsea, East Riding of Yorkshire have been nominated every year since these awards began and this year did not disappoint with an extremely well-rehearsed set and strike led again by Luke Conlon, who encapsulates what a stage crew leader at Rock Challenge® should be: organised, involved, safe and most importantly encouraging the young people on the crew to be as involved as possible.
QUEEN ELIZABETH'S GIRLS' SCHOOL, Barnet, Hertfordshire were nominated for the first time this year. Again, a very well-led stage crew and probably the youngest average age of all crews nominated. Despite this they dealt professionally and safely with a very large set, moving it with great fluidity throughout the piece and, again, superb on both set and strike."
